News and Events

August 2016:

The Club continues to grow and now has 59 registered members. In June we held our first major event, holding a visitors day, with 5 clubs visiting from South Wales and England. It was deemed a successful day by all attending, and we held a free prize draw for each individual club which our visitors appreciated. Once again we had the continued support of the Vale Council, for which we are grateful. In July we finally got round to making our purchase of a large 9mtr x 3 metre gazebo, new gas cooker and associated equipment. So into July, it was decided to test everything out by holding a 'members & family fun evening sail', with plenty of hotdogs, teas and coffee on offer, and a enjoyable evening was had. It is now hoped to hold a 'yacht sailing regatta' in the next few weeks, so will let you know how that's goes in our next update. In the meantime, lets hope the weather is good to us all for the rest of the year.

April 2016:

After 1 year (formed 27 March 2015) the Club steadily continues to grow, and with 55 registered members we can conifdently say it's been a successful year. We're also pleased to say we've signed up our first female members who are now working on preparing their model boats ready for the summer months.

We held our First Anniversary Function in March, and we had a very good turnout, 40 in attendance overall, including spouses/partners.

We're fortunate enough to be supported by various companies and model shop suppliers, and every member went home with a prize from our "Free Prize Draw". Just some of our supporters were:

  • MSC Cruises (UK)

  • Component Shop (Electronics)

  • Cornwall Model Boats

  • Deans Marine Models

  • Mobile Marine Models.... and so many more, so a BIG thank you for your support.

8 lucky members will be off to Southampton next month as guests of MSC Cruises (UK) and this will include a tour of MSC Splendida followed by a fine dining lunch, so looking forward to that.

A new feature for the Club is our Saturday Breakfast Club, these will take place on the first Saturday of each month, meeting up early morning for a hearty breakfast prior to sailing on Cold Knap Lake, or just a catch up and chat if the weather is not  on our side. Our first Breakfast Club had 14 members in attendance, so a good start.

Our Free Prize Draws will also now take place on the first saturday of every month. Happy sailing all, from VGMBC!

January 2016:

It's now 10 months since the formation of the VGMBC in March 2015 and we are pleased to have just registered our 45th Member.

The success of the Club is testimony to our Members - a genuine group of enthusiasts who give a warm and friendly welcome to all our newcomers.

Although no Christmas function was held, we held a fun day at the lakeside including a Christmas prize draw, all free of course, and with 16 prizes on offer there were many a smiling face on the day. Many thanks to our sponsors and club members.

In March the Club will celebrate our 1st year together by holding an evening function.

Members and partners will be attending, and as of today we have approximately 34 booked to attend. There are rumours that the party banners will be out along with a birthday cake, and why not!

Preparations are also now underway planning our first major club event and we will be inviting clubs from around South Wales and South West England to spend a day with us sailing on the Lake.

Lets hope the year brings us good sailing weather!

Forthcoming Club Events:

  • March 20th: Cardiff Marine Modellers Open day @ Roath Park.
  • March: 1st Anniversary of Club Formation.
